Inspirational Success Story of...

Kathy King, RD

Q&A with Kathy

Why do you love being a food and nutrition professional?

I have a burning passion to bring an awareness to healthcare professionals that nutrition is wondrous in how it regulates the body and prevents disease. Many in the public already know it, but too many healthcare people are kicking and screaming as we go down the path. I love the nice people in our profession; we may not be the most flashy, but we are honest, earnest, and we care.

What strengths, attributes or skills have helped you become successful?

  • Curiosity
  • Hard worker
  • Passionate

What advice would you give to other food and nutrition professionals pursuing career fulfillment?

Have a passion for your work—look around to find your niche if you don’t have passion now. I love being an entrepreneur; it excites me and makes me feel good about myself, so my self-confidence has grown over the years.

What is your current biggest struggle in professional work?

There aren’t enough hours in the day to do all I want/need to do—I have been told by business advisors that I am the bottleneck. I delegate and hone back, but I still need to another me.

What tools and actions do you take for inspiration?

I buy myself flowers each week, work in my gardens, go sit at my little peach-colored office (I write at home) and smile; I go to book stores and scan new titles and buy the best—some for my business as new courses and some for me like inspirational ones and Herman or Sherman Lagoon cartoons. I enjoy my husband’s passion for sports and my kids’ new ventures.
