Social Media - Get On or Get Left Behind
By: Teresa Pangan, PhD, RD and Mandi Wong, RD/LD
Why is social media important - even more so why can you NOT afford to use social media? Three out of four Americans use social technology. Five billion - the number of minutes spent on Facebook each day. And if Facebook were a country, it would be the 8th most populated in the world, just ahead of Japan
Mandi and Teresa believe understanding social media is so important in our current times and culture. As part of our effort to make it easy for professionals in food, nutrition and culinary fields to start becoming involved in some way in social media, we presented at the annual meeting for the Texas Dietetic Association on social media on March 20th, 2010.
There was not near enough time to cover all we wanted to convey so we have created a social media section on our website. We will be posting resources and free webinars we will be conducting in the coming months in order to help YOU understand and become involved in social media. We want to help take away the mystery and calm any anxiety you may have. We have been there, we know change and new technologies can be daunting - where do you start? You have no extra time, how do you fit in it? These are questions we hope to help you answer.
